The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from March 5th to March 11th, 2023.

March 5th
Battery- 11821 San Pablo Ave (McDonalds): 
At 7:30 PM, an officer reports an employee was in line making a purchase when an unknown suspect began yelling at him and spat on him and then fled the area.
 
Possession of a Spring Loaded Knife/ Drunk in Public- San Pablo Ave./Madison Ave. 
At 8:23 PM, officers received several calls of a subject stumbling around in the area. An officer located the subject passed out on the sidewalk in front of the Post Office. Officers determined the subject was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The subject was placed under arrest. During a search incident to arrest, a spring loaded knife was found in the subject’s possession. The subject was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 
 
March 6th
Criminal Threats- 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Ross): 
At 7:39 PM, an officer reports the suspect was asked to leave by employees after they suspected her of stealing. While exiting the business, she threatened to spray employees with pepper spray. The suspect was contacted in front of the business and admitted to making the threats because she felt as if the employees were harassing her. Employees did not want to pursue this matter criminally.  The suspect was released from the scene.

March 7th 
Identity Theft – 10900 San Pablo Ave.
At 9:11 AM the victim called the police department to report that an unknown suspect opened a bank account in the victim’s name and attempted to deposit a fraudulent check into the account. 

Shoplifting –9989 San Pablo Avenue (O’Reilly). 
At 12:41 PM two suspects entered the store and stole a car battery and then fled the business.
 
March 8th
Petty Theft –9889 San Pablo Avenue (FedEx) 
At 4:40 PM the victim placed a packaged cellphone in the FedEx drop box, but FedEx reported the box was empty when they received it. 

Shoplifting / Criminal Threats – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Ross)
At 6:16 PM a suspect entered the business and concealed one pair of shoes and fled the store without paying.  The suspect noticed the manager following and turned around and threatened to shoot the manager.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Fresno Ave
At 1:32 AM officers conducted a pedestrian stop on a known subject to have a felony warrant.  The subject was arrested and transported to county jail.
 
March 9th
Grand Theft –10650 San Pablo Avenue (CVS)
The victims’ package, which contained a Mac Laptop, was stolen from behind the counter.

Forgery – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Ross)
At 6:35 PM the suspect attempted to pay with two fake $100 bills.  The purchase was declined and the suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Grand Theft – 1300 block of Navellier St
At 2:08 AM the suspects stole a catalytic converter from the victims Prius and fled the scene. 

March 10th 
Vandalism – 7200 block of Eureka Ave:
 
At 10:00 AM, a known suspect tore the branches off a neighbor’s freshly planted tree during a mental health episode. The victim did not desire prosecution, due to the suspect’s mental health status, and only “wanted it to stop”.
 
Tampering with Vehicle-1700 Block of Liberty St: 
At 9:21 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect shattered the driver’s door window of the victim’s vehicle. No other damage or loss reported. The incident occurred in between 9:30 AM and 8:30 PM.
 
March 11th
Vehicle Theft – 2000 block of Key Blvd: 
At 9:41 AM, an officer reported the theft of a 2007 Honda CR-V sometime overnight. The vehicle was located unoccupied at the scene of a collision in Richmond, and was impounded around 3:30 AM this morning.
 
Shoplift – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross): 
At 10:46 hours, a suspect attempted to steal seven pairs of shoes. Loss prevention recovered some of the shoes but the suspect was successful in stealing two pairs of kid’s shoes and two bras.
 
Attempted Grand Theft – 11821 San Pablo Ave (McDonald’s): 
At 4:33 PM, two suspects attempted to steal the catalytic converter from an employee’s vehicle in the parking lot. The theft was interrupted and the suspects fled empty handed in a vehicle that was already stacked full with catalytic converters. 
 
Shoplift – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross):
At 4:59 PM, two suspects stole merchandise from Ross and fled towards BART.

Stolen Vehicle- 5800 Block of El Dorado St:
At 6:30 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s van. The theft occurred between 3/9 at 5:00 PM and 3/11 at 5:58 PM.
