The Hoboken Fire Department promotes six and swears in five new firefighters

The Hoboken Fire Department promoted six firefighters to the rank of Captain today, March 20, 2023. Five new members were also sworn in at a ceremony at City Hall, attended by Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla, Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante, and Fire Chief Anton Peskens, along with proud loved ones of those honored.

“Today, the newest members of the fire department are making a commitment to the City of Hoboken and its residents, and those who were elevated to the rank of Captain are renewing that commitment," said Mayor Bhalla. "We thank all of those being honored today for their sense of duty and dedication to keeping Hoboken safe.”

“The Hoboken Fire Department continues to grow stronger with every firefighter we swear in, and every promotion we make,” said Director Ferrante. “Protecting Hoboken may not be a glamorous career, but this group is more proof that the entire department is dedicated to doing whatever it takes to keep this city as safe as possible.”

“The future of the Hoboken Fire Department is on display at this ceremony today,” said Chief Peskens. “I congratulate and welcome the new firefighters being sworn in today and thank the new Captains for their continued service and growing leadership within the department and community.”

The families of all firefighters were also thanked and congratulated during the ceremony today.  Mayor Bhalla added, “the men being promoted and sworn in today would not be here without your support, love, and guidance."

Today’s ceremony included a moment of silence to mark the one-year anniversary of the passing of Retired Police Officer Dominic Lucignano, the father of newly sworn in Firefighter Damiano Lucignano. "The City of Hoboken truly lost one of its favorite sons a year ago today,” said Director Ferrante. “A retired police officer, former director of Hoboken P.A.L. and longtime football coach, Coach Dom as we knew him, will live on through not just his family, but the many people he supported and successfully helped."  Firefighter Lucignano was issued Badge Number 31 in honor of his father who carried that badge number during his years with the Hoboken Police Department.

Members promoted to Captain today include James Twyford, Antonio Tamborra, Thomas Worley Jr., Ryan Talerico, Anthony Diaz, and Christopher Markey.

New Firefighters sworn in today include Anthony Pascale, Nickolaus Gjoni, Ali Elgayar, Danyel Rivera, and Damiano Lucignano.
