Contractor and Businesses Indicted for Fraud Statewide
Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Raymond Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department announced Tuesday the indictment of Olcay "OJ" Darkanat age 61 of
Matawan along with Narrowing Construction, LLC. of Matawan and Eagle Eye Home Remodeling, LLC of Whiting. The suspect stole money by pretending to be a home improvement contractor.

Over a period of seven years, Darkanat stole money from homeowners in Middlesex, Mercer, and Monmouth Counties and utilized businesses in Monmouth and Ocean Counties to conceal the crimes. Darkanat would go to homes as Narrowing Construction, LLC., and Eagle Eye Home Remodeling, LLC. He would provide an estimate for home repairs and take an initial down payment. He would provide minimal work and then disappear. Sometimes he would have subcontractors do work on a home, but they would leave when he failed to pay them. The houses were left in disrepair and much of the work failed inspection. After civil suits were filed, he changed companies to use Eagle Eye Home Remodeling and had homeowners make out checks directly to him. Each time he conned a victim he would ignore their attempts to locate him or flee out of the country.

Middlesex County Division of Consumer Affairs Investigator Anastasia Kokinos and South Brunswick Detective Bryan Sites started to connect all the cases in September of 2022. Their six-month investigation uncovered cases from residents in South Brunswick, Monroe, West Windsor, East Windsor, and Marlboro. Investigators uncovered a total of $250,000 stolen from the victims. The investigators brought their cases to Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Russell Curley who presented all the cases to a Middlesex County Grand Jury. As a result, Darkanat was indicted on 10 counts of 3rd-degree Theft, and 1 count of 2nd-degree Misconduct by a Corporate Official. Darkanat has not been taken into custody at this time, but investigators continue to pursue leads to locate him.

Chief Hayducka said, “This was excellent teamwork and great leadership by Assistant Prosecutor Curley putting all these cases together. We heard from multiple victims who felt helpless that this man took their money and fled. I want to thank Investigator Kokinos, Detective Sites, and Assistant Prosecutor Curley for all their hard work.”
