SUBJECT: Subject arrested for multiple counts of burglary, sexual battery
 
LOCATION: Multiple locations, 1200 to 1300 block of Ebener Street, Redwood City
 
DATE/TIME: March 23rd^th 2023
 
INVOLVED PARTY: Cristian Josue CanelSian, 21 years old.

Since January 2023, the Redwood City Police Department's Investigations Unit has investigated three burglaries which involved female residents encountering an unknown, uninvited male either entering or inside their home. On two occasions the man broke into the homes while the female victims were asleep in bed, including one event where the victim awoke when the man inappropriately touched her.  In all of these events the man left when confronted and was able to flee the scene prior to the arrival of the police.  The descriptions of the man were generally similar in all three events but his identity was unknown and evidence recovered at the scene did not result in positive suspect identification. On March 19, 2023, at approximately 220 A.M. Redwood City Police responded to a residential burglary in progress involving a man who entered the female victim's residence and inappropriately touched her while she slept. When the victim confronted the suspect, he barricaded himself in the bathroom but escaped through an exterior window before police arrival. A canvas of the surrounding area resulted in a surveillance video that assisted in identifying the suspect and provided enough information to connect the suspect to three previous incidents of similar activity. The majority of these crimes took place on the 1200-1300 block of Ebener. The suspect broke into the victim's residences at night to commit his crimes. A total of five burglaries are under investigation that are believed to have been committed by the same suspect since the beginning of January 2023.
 
The investigation provided detectives with enough evidence to arrest 21 year old Cristian Josue CanelSian at his Redwood City residence for the following crimes:
 
PC 243.4 E1    Touch a person intimately against their will for sexual arousal
PC 460 A        First-Degree Burglary
PC 647H         Disorderly Conduct
 
CanelSian was booked into SMCJ for the above criminal charges.
 
Search warrants of his residence and his place of work were executed where items were seized.
 
The Redwood City Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying any additional victims of unlawful sexual contact or any other crimes committed by Cristian Josue CanelSian.
