Today marks the 11th Anniversary of the death of a Waldwick Hero Staff Sgt. Joseph D'Augustine, who died on March 27, 2012 fighting for our freedom.
Joe was a dedicated Marine who served his country and who wore his uniform with pride and honor. Joe served in the United States Marine Corps for 11 years. His tours included Iraq (2), Afghanistan (2), South Korea, East Timor and Okinawa.
Joe was stationed in many locations but most notably in Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune.
Vice President Cheney said, "Our nation grieves for the brave men and women whose lives have ended in freedom's cause. No one can take away the sorrow that comes to the families of the fallen. We can only say ... that these Americans served in a noble and a necessary cause, and their sacrifice has made our nation and the world more secure. We will honor their memory forever."
Staff Sgt. Joseph D’Augustine’s memory will always stay alive in our hearts and he will forever be part of our Waldwick history. We will never stop honoring him.

Staff Sgt. Joseph D’ Augustine gave his life so that we can have a tomorrow that is free, that allows us to live in a country where we can control our own destiny.
On this 11th Anniversary of his death, let us remember all the good that Staff Sgt. Joseph D’Augustine has done. Let us never forget his family, his heroism and his sacrifice.
Staff Sgt. Joseph D’Augustine, continue to rest in peace. Thank you for your service and may God forever hold you in the palm of his hand.
