NARRATIVE:
On Friday, March 24, 2023, Officers from the Pomona Police Department Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and the Sexual Exploitation Trafficking Team (SETT) were conducting proactive enforcement patrols along the East Holt Blvd. and Indian Hills Blvd. corridors to address human trafficking related crimes.
At approximately 1204 hrs., Officers conducted a traffic stop of a 2015 Mercedes Benz C300 for vehicle code violations. The male driver, later identified as Devion YOUNG, yielded in the area of Lincoln Ave and Indian Hill Blvd. The vehicle was also occupied by a female passenger. During the traffic stop, officers asked YOUNG to step out of the vehicle. It was then that YOUNG restarted his vehicle and fled. A pursuit ensued until YOUNG lost control of his vehicle and collided with a chain link fence in the area of Jefferson Ave and San Antonio Ave. YOUNG abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the residential area. The female passenger was detained and questioned. Both a Pomona Police K-9 tracking dog and an air unit responded to the scene to assist with the search.
Pomona PD K-9 Stryker and his partner located YOUNG hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 800 block of Columbia Ave., where he was taken into custody without incident.
The Pomona Police Department Sexual Exploitation Trafficking Team (SETT) takes a proactive approach to combating human trafficking and utilizes the assistance of other agencies to provide a victim-centered approach. In 2022, the Pomona Police Department rescued 11 juvenile victims of human trafficking and several adult victims. SETT is attached to Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
The Pomona Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is a specialized unit that typically works in a plain clothes capacity. The SIU is responsible for conducting fugitive apprehension, crime suppression, and Human Trafficking investigations.
