Incident Summary:
On March 29, 2023, at 3:05 am, the Petaluma Police Department received a call from a victim who reported their catalytic converter had been stolen from their Toyota Sequoia. The victim who lives on Weatherby Way, was alerted to the theft after their son heard the power tools cutting the metal. They went outside to see the suspect vehicle, which they described as a white SUV, drive away.
An officer located a white Ford Edge traveling westbound on Caulfield Lane near Lakeville Street. The vehicle’s headlight was out, and the registration returned out of Hayward. The officer who was waiting for a cover officer, followed the vehicle as it entered northbound 101 and initiated a traffic stop at the northbound 101 and East Washington Street off ramp. Officers approached the vehicle and observed a suspect laying across the back seat. The suspect who was later identified as Dora Alicia Cordero (44) of Hayward, sat up and officers saw multiple catalytic converters, which she was attempting to conceal.
Officers attempted to begin to detain the occupants of the vehicle, they opened the front passenger door, where Alberto Tolintino (45) of Hayward was seated. Officers immediately observed a handgun in the door pocket of the door. Tolintino was uncooperative and not listening to officer’s instructions. The officers retreated to their vehicle to provide them cover and attempt to de-escalate the situation. As officers ordered Tolintino out of the vehicle he fled on foot. Officers were able to detain the driver, Adolfo Esteban Estrada Manuel (28) of Hayward and Cordero without incident and secured the handgun.
Officers established a perimeter and began a search for Tolintino with assistance from Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office deputies, a K9 unit, and helicopter. Tolintino was discovered in the waterway that parallels the north curb line of East Washington Street. Upon being discovered Tolintino again attempted to flee and after a foot chase and brief struggle Tolintino was taken into custody by officers.
Officers located a total of four catalytic converters in the vehicle. At the time of this press release only one catalytic converter theft has been reported to the Petaluma Police Department. Additionally, officers located methamphetamine, and a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine on the passenger seat where Tolintino was seated.
All three suspects were transported and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for: 182(a)(1) PC; Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, 487 PC; Grand Theft, 496(a) PC, Possession of Stolen Property, and 466 PC, Possession of Burglary Tools.
