DETAILS: On March 29th, 2023, at approximately 09:25 am, Officers were dispatched to a major crash in the 11000 Block of E. IH 40. A Chevrolet SUV, driven by Myretta Gowdy, female, age 72, had been traveling Westbound in the Eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 proper. DPS units had received multiple calls on the vehicle as far back as Carson County. A GMC truck, driven by a female age 53, was traveling Eastbound in the inside lane of Interstate 40. The two vehicles collided head on. The GMC then struck a Freightliner semi, driven by a male age 42, causing the GMC to roll. Myretta Gowdy died at the scene as result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the GMC suffered serious injuries and the driver of the semi suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to an area hospital. Next of Kin for Ms. Gowdy has been notified. Judge Jackson was contacted and responded to the scene. This crash is being investigated by the Amarillo Police Traffic Investigation Unit.
