Hawthorne Police Traffic Bureau Advisory.
During weekday mornings between 8:15- 8:45am and afternoons between 3:15-3:45 pm on Central Avenue from Lincoln Avenue and 10th Avenue proceed with patience by obliging to School Bus laws.
The Borough of Hawthorne Police Department Traffic Bureau has a very special friend we would like to inform you about. He is a preschool child that is wheelchair bound which is his only method of mobilization. We are advising the surrounding neighbors to look out for one of our own borough residents as he navigates to his school bus. If you know the area, driveways are not conducive to school buses, so curbside pickup and drop-off is the only option. Traffic Bureau officers will be monitoring traffic safety on the block.
Please follow the following safety rules:
1. Respect the school bus stop arm and flashing lights.
2. Be aware of children in the crosswalk.
3. Obey all posted speed limits.
4. Do not pass a school bus when the stop arm is extended, and the lights are flashing.
5. Do not block the school bus when it is stopped to load or unload passengers.
6. Remain alert, as children can be unpredictable.
7. Watch for pedestrians in the area.
8. Follow all traffic control devices and obey the directions of the school crossing guard.
9. Do not use cell phones or any other electronic device while driving in the vicinity of a school bus.
10. Drive with extra care and caution in school zones and near schools.
