Full Notification

On 03/30/2023, at approximately 8:08 am, the New Castle Police Department received a phone call claiming a student was shot at Horace Greeley High School. The school was immediately notified and instituted its protocols as officers responded.  In addition, Officers were sent to the other schools in Town as a precaution.

Within minutes Officers arrived at the High School and systematically cleared the building. After a complete search was conducted, it was determined the reported shooting did not occur.

Schools and districts within the county, across the state of NY as well as around the country have been receiving phone calls indicating that an active threat is happening in one of their schools. This appears to be a phone-based harassment known as “swatting”.    
 
At this time, there is no threat to public safety or the schools. The incident is being investigated by the New Castle Police Department, as well as other local police agencies.
