Suspicious Device Located in Arroyo Grande

Public Information: Suspicious Device
On March 30, 2023 at approximately 4:30 am, Arroyo Grande Police Department was dispatched to a suspicious package in the 400 block of S. Elm Street. Officers arrived on scene and located the device with what appeared to be a security camera mounted to the top. Due to the nature and appearance of the device AGPD requested the assistance of the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Bomb Squad Unit.

The Sheriff’s Bomb Squad respond to the location as AGPD evacuated the nearby apartment units. AGPD established a shelter for residents to go to until it was safe for them to return home. The Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was able to examine the device and determined that it did not pose a threat to the public.

This is an ongoing investigation. It does not appear that this was an intentional act. AGPD would like to thank the public for their cooperation. There is no danger to the public at this time. The roadways have been reopened and all residents were allowed to return to their homes.
