Wilmington Police arrest North Carolina man in connection to shooting incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested a North Carolina man in connection to a shooting incident.
On March 8, at approximately 9:04 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Justison Street, in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located a 39-year-old victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The case was assigned to Detective Kevin Murphy of the Criminal Investigations Division.
On March 27, at approximately 7:55 p.m., a police officer on patrol observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard. Officers conducted a vehicle stop, and made contact with 21-year-old James Corprew of North Carolina, who initially gave police a false name. Corprew then fled from officers on foot, and following a brief foot pursuit was taken into custody. Following a brief investigation, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, and ammunition.
Through the course of his investigation Detective Murphy identified Corprew as a suspect in connection with the March 8 shooting incident, and charged him accordingly.
Corprew was charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Three Counts
- Assault (First Degree)
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Providing a False Statement to Law Enforcement
- Resisting Arrest
