Public Comment Opportunity on IMPD Accreditation
CALEA Accreditation embodies the principles of community-oriented policing. It creates a forum in which law enforcement agencies and citizens work together to prevent and control challenges confronting law enforcement and provides clear direction about community expectations.
Accreditation symbolizes professionalism, excellence, and competence. It requires written directives, proofs of compliance, and training to inform employees about policies and practices. CALEA accreditation is a four-year process involving off site electronic file reviews and an in person visit to interview employees, volunteers, and community members while observing the actual day to day processes and procedures.
IMPD is currently an accredited agency with CALEA.
As part of the process, an Accreditation Public Comment Portal has been implemented. The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding our agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide participating agencies with information to support continuous improvement and to foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
