SIERRA MADRE POLICE ISSUES A COMMUNITY ALERT RELATED TO “DISTRACTION BURGLARIES” AND THEFTS
Sierra Madre, CA. – March 28, 2023
On March 28, 2023, Sierra Madre Police Officers responded to the 100 block of S. Michillinda Avenue, regarding a male suspect impersonating a utility worker. The suspect knocked on a resident's door seeking access to the rear yard for purposes of checking utility lines, with the intent to distract the homeowner. A second suspect is believed to have been involved.
On occasion, suspects have been known to be aggressive towards victims. The Sierra Madre Police Department recommends not answering the door if you do not recognize the person on the other side. Verify the identity of the person by calling the company they claim to represent and be cautious of anyone trying to coax you out of your home. If a utility worker or contractor knocks on your door and you are apprehensive, please call 9-1-1 or the non-emergency Police Department line at 626-355-1414.
Anyone with information on the incident can contact our Detective's Division or leave information anonymously on Crime Stoppers at https://lacrimestoppers.org.
