On March 31, 2023, around 9:30 am, the Novato Police Department Investigations Section with the assistance of the San Rafael-Novato Crisis Response Unit (CRU) served a search warrant on the 700 block of Sunset Parkway in Novato. The search warrant was issued because of an active criminal investigation. The Crisis Response Unit is composed of police staff with specialized training in de-escalation, negotiation, special equipment (robot and drone), and advanced tactics needed during crisis or high risk situations.

Due to the potential for weapons being involved and to ensure the safety of our community and first responders, the Crisis Response Unit served the warrant in support of our detectives. The 700 block of Sunset Parkway was temporarily closed due to the number of police vehicles involved in the operation. A public alert was sent advising residents in the area to shelter in place during the initial phase of search warrant service.

As a result of the search warrant service, several items of evidence were recovered. 

We appreciate the collaboration with all our community partners including the schools in the area, who were assured there was no danger to the students and no lockdowns were needed.
