High Wind Warning until 05:00AM Tuesday

* WHAT...West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.

* WHERE...South End of the Lower Sierra, South End of the Upper Sierra, Kern River Valley, Piute Walker Basin, Tehachapi, Grapevine, Frazier Mountain Communities, Indian Wells Valley, Mojave Desert Slopes and Mojave Desert.

* WHEN...From 11 AM Sunday to 5 AM PDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Visibility could be reduced due to blowing dust and blowing sand especially on Monday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest of the winds are expected to be Monday afternoon and evening. Highways impacted include SR 58, SR 178, SR 14, and US 395. Areas with wet soil due to recent heavy rain could see an extensive amounts of trees blown over.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTH END OF THE LOWER SIERRA ... SOUTH END OF THE UPPER SIERRA ... KERN RIVER VALLEY ... PIUTE WALKER BASIN ... TEHACHAPI ... GRAPEVINE ... FRAZIER MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES ... INDIAN WELLS VALLEY ... MOJAVE DESERT SLOPES ... MOJAVE DESERT

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
