Update: Green Bay Police Refer Charges on Nearly a Dozen Teen Suspects in Rash of Auto Thefts
The Green Bay Police Department has now referred charges on nearly a dozen of teens between the ages of 13 to 17 years old, who are suspected of being involved in a rash of reported and attempted auto thefts across the city, especially the west side since the start of the year.
Beginning January 15, 2023, we have opened investigations into nearly fifty vehicles that have either been stolen or had broken windows and smashed steering columns. The primarily targeted vehicles have been Hyundai and Kia.
“We believe this criminal action is because of a viral video traced back to the self-named group, ‘Kia Boys’, resulting in accidents caused by reckless driving and property loss,” said Lieutenant Jason Allen, Green Bay Police Department. “We continue to encourage the public to take precautions in deterring theft or damage to their vehicles and alert us if you see something suspicious.”
Tips to Prevent Auto Thefts:
- Use a Garage if Accessible
- Park in Well-Lit Areas
- Purchase an Anti-Theft Locking Device
- Lock Your Vehicle
- Take Your Keys
- Do Not Leave Valuables in Your Vehicle
- Contact Hyundai (800-633-5151) or Kia (800-333-4542) Toll-Free for Software Updates
These investigations are ongoing. No further details will be released at this time.
“We want to thank the community for their help by reporting tips and sharing surveillance videos to the Green Bay Police Department and Crime Stoppers,” said Allen.
