SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Fatal Farming Accident
DATE AND TIME: Approximately 5:25 P.M. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023
LOCATION: 14000 block of West Stanton Road, Maple Valley Township

The Sheriff’s Office was sent to a report of a farming accident where a man was trapped under a tractor at approximately 5:25 P.M. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in the 14000 block of West Stanton Road.
Upon arrival, the deputies were taken to the location of the accident where they saw a man lying on the ground between the rear tire of a small tractor and a finish mower mounted on the back. The man, a 62-year-old from Trufant, was dead upon the responders’ arrival. An acquaintance had located the victim which led to the 911 call. The acquaintance reported finding the victim on the ground with the tractor running, still in gear, and the rear wheels rotating. It was apparent the tractor had moved forward coming to a rest against a barn wall. It is not known how the victim ended up between the tractor wheel and the mower. Foul play is not suspected.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, and the Lakeview Fire Department.
