HAZARDOUS ASH TREE REMOVAL

HAZARDOUS ASH TREE REMOVAL

All residents and commercial property owners should be aware that the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has led to the loss of many ash trees in several areas of Byram Township.

It is important that you walk the edge of your property and check for dead or dying ash trees.  Dead or dying trees of any type pose a danger of falling on roads, power lines, or to yours or your neighbor’s property.

Township Ordinances §186-14G and §214-2 requires property owners to remove dead or dying trees.  This includes the municipal right-of-strip which is the area between the owner’s property line and edge of pavement.  Failure to act can result in a notice of violation.

If you discover that you have dead or dying trees, it is recommended you consult with a reliable and licensed tree removal company.  Thank you for your attention to this message to ensure the safety of the community.

If you have any questions, please contact the Township’s Zoning Officer at (973) 347-2500 x131.

Following is a link to the New Jersey Department of Agriculture that will help you identify typical ash trees.  Also, we have included pictures to help you identify dead or dying ash trees.
