El Cerrito Police Department blotter from March 26th to April 1st

 
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from March 26th to April 1st, 2023.

March 26th 
Battery – 10650 San Pablo Ave (CVS):
At 2:30 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered CVS and attempted to shoplift merchandise.  She was confronted by loss prevention, who dumped the items out of her bag.  A few minutes later, the suspect’s cousin entered the store looking for the LP agent.  She confronted him and grabbed his hands in an attempt to restrain him.  The LP agent was able to break her grip and the suspects left the store empty handed.

Trespass – 4010 El Cerrito Plaza (AT&T):
At 4:10 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a woman who refused to leave the AT&T store when ordered by store staff.  The suspect was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued a citation and released. 

Vandalism – 10900 San Pablo Ave:
At 5:25 PM, promptly upon being released on the above citation, the suspect walked to the San Pablo Avenue side of the El Cerrito Police Department and began breaking the windows.  She broke twelve windows with an estimated value of $5000.  She was re-arrested and directly transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

March 27TH 
Warrant Arrest – Potrero Ave at S. 56th St.
At 1:44PM., officer’s responded to the 5300 block of Cypress Ave, for a suspicious person walking in the backyard of a residence. Officer’s contacted the suspect and learned he had a warrant for his arrest issued by the California Department of Corrections.  The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft – 1500 block of S. 56th St.
The the victims catalytic converter was stolen off their vehicle from 3/26 at 10PM to 3/27 at 1PM. 

Grand Theft – 6500 block of Knott Ave.
The victim’s electric scooter was stolen from their front yard on 3/26 from 9PM – 10PM. 

Robbery – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Footlocker)
At approximately 4:07PM the first suspect stole miscellaneous clothing and exited the store.  As employees were at the door, the second suspect exited through the doors and pushed an employee from behind. 

Shoplifting – 11545 San Pablo Avenue (Ross)
At 8:24PM, officers were flagged down regarding a shoplifting that just occurred.  The suspect was detained and arrested for shoplifting after the business placed the subject under citizen’s arrest.  The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

Stolen Vehicle – 11565 San Pablo Avenue (Walgreen’s)
At 9:24PM, the victim parked the vehicle in front of Walgreens, leaving it running but locked.  The victim walked into the store possessing the key fob.  The suspect smashed the front driver side window and stole the victims’ vehicle.
 
March 28th 
Petty Theft – 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joe’s)
The victim’s license plates were stolen off their vehicle from March 27th at 4:07PM to March 28th at 8:00AM.

Petty Theft – 6500 block of Schmidt Ln.
A suspect cut the lock off the victims purple bicycle and stole the bike.  The theft occurred from March 27th at 8:00PM to March 28th at 1:00PM.   

Vandalism – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s)
At 3:21PM the suspect entered the store, damaged a refrigerator glass door before being asked to leave by security.  The suspect threw food items at the security guard and manager as he exited the store towards San Pablo Ave. 

Auto Burglary – 11450 San Pablo Avenue (Safeway) 
At 11:10PM, the suspect smashed the driver side window of the victims’ vehicle and stole property.  Occurred between 10:30PM-11:10PM 
 
March 29th 
Warrant arrest / Burglary Tools – San Pablo Ave / Central Ave 
At 1:16AM, officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver on a felony warrant from Napa County.  The driver was also in possession of burglary tools.  Cited on the burglary tools and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility on the warrant. 
 
March 30th 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 200 block of San Carlos Ave.
At 9:26AM an officer recovered a reported stolen vehicle.  The vehicle was released to the owner at the scene. 

Arson – 10680 San Pablo Ave (O’Reilly Auto Parts)
At 11:17AM an unknown suspect started a small brush fire in a homeless encampment on the northwest side of the building.  The fire was extinguished prior to police officers arriving on scene.   

Forgery– 500 block of Oak St.
At 11:53AM a former tenant had their package delivered to their old address.  The current tenant forged their signature and kept the package. 

Auto Burglary – 700 block of Kearney St. 
At 1:37PM the suspect broke into a parked vehicle and stole miscellaneous items.
 
Stolen Vehicle – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave.
The victim’s vehicle was stolen from March 27th at 10PM to March 28th at 7:45AM.

Petty Theft – 11740 San Pablo Ave.
At 6:02PM, the victim walked out to her parked vehicle and found a subject inside.  The victim yelled at the suspect who exited the vehicle with the victim’s backpack and fled the area.

Vandalism – 10650 San Pablo Ave (CVS).
At 9:43PM, an unknown suspect shot a “BB” gun at the window of the business causing it to shatter.

Stolen Vehicle / Probation Violation / Drug Possession / Fraud / Possession of Stolen Property / Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Conlon Ave.

At 1:31AM, ECPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with stolen license plates.  The vehicle was also reported stolen.  The driver and passenger were arrested and both transported to county jail.

Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave / Hill St.
At 3:01AM, ECPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plates.  A check of the VIN revealed the vehicle was reported stolen.  The driver was arrested and transported to county jail.

March 31st 
Vehicle Theft – 2300 block of Carquinez Ave:
At 9:04 AM, an officer reports the theft of a black Kia Sorrento sometime between 5:00 PM on 3/30 and 9:04 AM on 3/31.

Vehicle Theft – 1700 block of Lexington Ave:
At 1:31 PM, an officer reports the theft of a red 2020 Hyundai Elantra sometime between 5:00 PM on 3/30 and 1:30 PM on 3/31.

Shoplift – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 1:44 hours, an officer reports an unidentified black female suspect stole merchandise from the store and fled.

Prowling -400 Block of Albemarle St: 
At 11:16 PM, an officer reports the victim looked out the window and noticed two subjects standing in her backyard next to her window. The suspects fled prior to officers arrival.
                                             
April 1st 
Shoplift – 9989 San Pablo Ave (O’Reilly’s):
At 9:29 AM, an unidentified suspect stole a power inverter worth $120 while an accomplice distracted store employees.

Petty Theft – 1500 block of Richmond St:
At 11:48 AM an unidentified suspect was captured on video reaching in to the victim’s mailbox and stealing mail.
