INCREASED FIRE DANGER IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM EDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM OPEN BURNING AND USE CAUTION DISPOSING OF FIREPLACE ASHES

INCREASED FIRE DANGER IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM EDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING

WNC Air Quality open burning automated number is related more to air quality not fire conditions themselves.

Gusty winds will return across western North Carolina and northeast Georgia today. Gusts as high as 40 mph can be expected across the North Carolina mountains, with gusts ranging from from 20 to 30 mph across northeast Georgia and the North Carolina Foothills and Piedmont. Meanwhile, warm temperatures will combine with very dry air to produce relative humidity values ranging from 20 to 25 percent for all but the higher elevations of the North Carolina mountains where values of 30 to 35 percent will be more common. The dry air and gusty winds combined with dry vegetation will enhance the potential for fires to start and spread.

Instructions:

Open burning highly discouraged. Dry conditions, winds, and low humidity will enhance chances of fires escaping and spreading quickly.
