CONSTRUCTION ON VILLA AVENUE:  Beginning on Monday, April 24, 2023, closures and detours will be in place on Villa Avenue and surrounding streets due to work on a gas main.  Construction will begin on Villa Avenue at Brooklawn Avenue, moving westbound towards Tunxis Hill Road. This construction project is expected to last 3-4 weeks and the contractor expects to cover between 100 to 300 feet per day.

Personnel from Burns Construction will be distributing door tags to all Villa Avenue residents prior to work beginning.  Fairfield Police personnel will also be on site at each side of the road closure and to assist with traffic flow.

Initially, Villa Avenue will be closed for eastbound traffic at Melville Avenue. Drivers will be directed to Melville Avenue and then to Cornell Road to access Route 59 (Stratfield Rd/Brooklawn Ave). Once construction crews reach Villa Ave west of Melville Ave, the detour will change and westbound traffic on Villa Avenue will be closed. Drivers will be detoured up Melville Avenue to Old Stratfield Road to access Route 58 (Tunxis Hill Rd/Cutoff).

Detour signs will be in place at the appropriate times during the construction project.  At the end of each day, road construction plates will cover the road, allowing traffic to flow in both directions. However, for one or two days, there may be a need to entirely close certain sections of the road.  Police personnel and detour signs will be in place during those times.

Expect delays in the area.  Residents are encouraged to find an alternate route during construction.
