Incident Summary:
On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at approximately 8:17 pm, the Petaluma Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a female reporting Solomon Griffith was acting paranoid and believed people were after him. While Officers were responding to the area, the female reported Griffith was known to carry a firearm. The female reported there was a shotgun in the vehicle Griffith was associated with, but it was unknown if he had retrieved it.
When Officer’s arrived on scene, Griffith grabbed a large duffle bag and fled on foot, southbound on Keller Street. Officer’s quickly determined Griffith had in fact retrieved the shotgun from the vehicle and was in possession of it. Multiple Officer’s responded to the area and began searching for Griffith.
At approximately 8:30 pm, Griffith was located in the area of 5th Street and A Street. Based on the information that Griffith was armed with a firearm and had initially fled from Police, a high-risk stop was conducted, and Griffith was taken into custody without incident.
When Griffith was taken into custody, he was no longer in possession of the duffle bag that he was seen fleeing with and he was not armed with a firearm.
Petaluma Police K-9 Jax was called to the scene to conduct an article search to help locate Griffth’s duffle bag and the firearm. A short time later, the duffle bag was located hidden in the bushes of a resident’s front yard in the 400 block of A Street. A loaded 12-guage shotgun was recovered from inside the duffle bag.
Griffth was later booked at the Sonoma County Jail Main Adult Detention Facility for Possession of a Loaded Concealed Firearm in Public.
