What is an ADU?
An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a smaller, independent residential dwelling unit located on the same lot as a stand-alone (i.e., detached) single-family home. Often it is a converted garage or a cottage at the rear of property. The goal of permitting ADUs is to provide more housing units without changing the character of a neighborhood.
