Application to fill Board of Trustees vacancy

The Village Board of Trustees is soliciting applications from residents to for consideration to be appointed to fill the Trustee seat vacated by the election of John Imes as Village President. Interested residents must complete the application form and return to Village Administrator Sharon Eveland (either by email at [email protected] or drop off at Village Hall) no later than 12:00 pm on Monday, May 15, 2023. The Board will consider the appointment at the regular Board meeting that evening at 7:00 pm. That meeting will be in-person at Village Hall. All applicants who submit the application form by the deadline will be considered and will be given two minutes to give a statement to the Board.

Applications that are received by 8:00 am on Friday, May 11, 2023 will be included in the Board meeting packet and put on the website on that date. Applications received after that deadline will be emailed to the Trustees and placed on the website immediately after the deadline. Applicants may submit any supporting materials they feel appropriate, but the Village respectfully requests that supporting materials be limited to no more than five (5) pages.

Interested residents should be aware of the following:

  • Village Board meets monthly, usually the 3rd Monday of the month (though that date may sometimes adjust to Tuesday if the Monday falls on a religious holiday or a holiday for which the Village is closed). Trustees are expected to attend all Village Board meetings and their respective committees as assigned. Currently, the regular Board meetings are held virtually, via zoom about half the year with most special meetings occurring virtually. The vast majority of committee meetings are held virtually.
  • Trustees are assigned to chair or participate in committees and serve as liaisons between the committees and the Village Board.
  • Trustees are not paid for their time.
  • There are no educational requirements to be eligible to serve as Trustee. You just need to be a resident in the Village and have a willingness to commit the time and effort to serving. There are training opportunities and materials available, at the Village’s expense, that an inexperienced or new Trustee can take advantage of to better understand the role of a Trustee and some of the many legal rules and regulations that govern local governments.
  • Current Village Board members are John Imes (Village President), Shabnam Lotfi (President Pro Tem), Mark Lederer, Dietmar Bassuner, Carol Barford, and Erin Clune.
Anyone with questions about serving as a Trustee can reach out to a current Trustee or to Village Administrator Sharon Eveland. Serving as a Trustee can be a rewarding experience and is a great way to give back to the community.
