Calaveras Sheriff’s Office Youth Outreach
“On the Right Track” & “AG Day”
As part of The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office efforts to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the youth in our community, deputies took the opportunity to attend three recent events: “On the Right Track Bret Hart High School”, “On the Right Track Calaveras High School” and “AG Day”. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office believes that attending such events with the youth can help build trust, better understanding and mutual respect between law enforcement and the community. By attending these events, deputies can engage with young people, answer their questions, and share information about the carrier of law enforcement.
The “On the Right Track” events were coordinated by The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Bret Harte High School, Calaveras Unified School District, Calaveras High School, Calaveras County Office of Education, and the Calaveras County Administrative Offices. This program is designed to equip our young adults with the skills needed to maneuver through life by creating “Real Life” scenarios requiring each student to engage in organizations that can meet their needs and provide support.
The “On the Right Track” event occurred at Bret Harte High School on April 13th and Calaveras High School on April 20th. Graduating students will be presented with information that will require them to make decisions/choices on how to seek services/solutions to fulfill the needs provided in each given scenario. Through the collaboration of our community partners, the event provided a fun-filled learning experience designed to keep our youth “On the Right Track” as they transition into the next phase of “Life” while also exposing them to potential career paths as they learn and engage multiple businesses and organizations during this event.
Ag Day is a unique opportunity for the students to be exposed to how products and services that are in their everyday lives and homes are grown and made, even right here in Calaveras County. It gives the opportunity to allow children in the community to have hands-on experience learning about agriculture in a safe environment.
