Green Bay Police to Host Multi-Jurisdictional Teen Police Academy; Registration Open

The Green Bay Police Department is partnering with the Brown County Sheriff's Office for its 23rd annual Multi-Jurisdictional Teen Police Academy as an introduction to the criminal justice profession.

Participants will learn about specialty units such as Dive Team, K9, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). They will also hear from law enforcement officers, recruiting staff, meet the forensics team, test their skills at techniques such as lifting fingerprints along with other hands-on demonstrations, tour the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and the Brown County Jail.

“If you are thinking about pursuing a career in the criminal justice field, the Multi-Jurisdictional Teen Police Academy is your opportunity to get a glimpse at police work in the real world,” said Natalia Sidon, Green Bay Police Department Crime Prevention Coordinator. “We often see a great number of youths who have participated in the past, enter into a law enforcement career, sometimes locally.”

Teen Police Academy is open to Brown County students who are currently in grades 9-12 for the 2022-23 school year. It is scheduled for June 19-22, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., each day, at the Green Bay Police Department, 307 S. Adams Street. Lunch will be provided.

Class size will be limited to 30 students; therefore, we ask that registrants commit to attending.

Applications will be accepted through Monday, May 22, 2023.

Those interested in participating, can download a form online by visiting the GBPD website at https://www.gbpolice.org/1077/Teen-Academy or contact the Crime Prevention Division – Melanie Skalmoski: (920) 448-3260 or email [email protected] and/or Natalia Sidon: (920) 448-3330 or email [email protected]. Completed applications can be mailed to or dropped off at the Green Bay Police Department, emailed to a Crime Prevention Coordinator or submitted to a School Resource Officer.

NOTE: Due to the structure of the academy, an application is required, and a criminal background check will be run on each applicant. Anyone with a felony arrest record will not be eligible to attend the academy. Anyone under the age of 18 will need the signature of a parent or guardian to participate.
