On April 30, 2023 at 12:59am, a homeowner in the 6800 block of Donna Drive called Middleton Police after being woken up by a loud crash in her front yard.  She looked out and saw a white Dodge Challenger had crashed into her two cars parked in her driveway and saw a person was fleeing the area. 

The driver was identified later as ​​21-year old Hayle Monreal, of Middleton.  Monreal was speeding recklessly eastbound on Donna Drive.  She was not able to navigate the curve near the intersection of Spring Grove Court, lost control of the vehicle and it went over the curb.  The vehicle struck an MG&E pole and knocked it down, then struck a small trailer, a trampoline and collided with one vehicle in the driveway, pushing it into the other.  The trailer and both victim cars were severely damaged.  Middleton Fire Department and MG&E came to secure and clean up the scene. 

Monreal had run home and returned home just before police arrived.  She admitted to the officers that she had been drinking wine while driving and crashed her car.  A Middleton Police officer administered standardized field sobriety tests and assessed enough clues of impairment to arrest Monreal for Operating While Intoxicated, her first offense.  Monreal provided a preliminary breath sample, which indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.19.  The legal limit in Wisconsin is 0.08. 

Monreal was issued citations for operating while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to keep motor vehicle under control, failure to notify police of an accident, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failure to wear a seatbelt, and possession of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
