El Cerrito Police blotter April 9th to April 15th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from April 9th to April 15th.

April 9th
 
Robbery – BART Path / Conlon Ave:
At 2:03 PM, two suspects approached the victim while he walked on the BART path.  The first suspect put his arm around the victim’s neck from behind while the second suspect emptied the contents of the victim’s pockets onto the ground and stole property.  Both suspects then fled the area.

Annoying Calls- 1900 Block of Junction Ave: 
At 7:01 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect was texting and messaging the victim via Facebook nonstop.
 
Vandalism- 6500 Block of Gladys Ave: 
At 7:49 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect slashed two tires on the victim’s vehicle. The incident occurred on 4/8/2023 between 1:55 PM and 3:00 PM.
 
Battery- 11344 San Pablo Ave (Denny’s): 
At 3:20 AM, an officer reports the suspect was upset with the service. He verbally assaulted an employee and threw a food container at her.
 
April 10th
 
Shoplifting – 11060 San Pablo Ave (Harbor Freight Tools)
At 11:45AM the suspect entered the store, filled a shopping cart full of miscellaneous items and exited the store without paying.

Shoplifting – 10650 San Pablo Ave (CVS)
At 12:28PM the suspect entered the store, stole miscellaneous cosmetics products, and fled the store.  

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Portola Dr. 
At 12:50AM, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the passenger on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants.  The subject was cited on one warrant and transported to county jail on the other warrant.
 
Warrant Arrest – Potrero Ave / I-80 Eastbound Off Ramp. 
At 4:09AM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the subject on two outstanding warrants.  The subject was transported to county jail on both warrants. 
 
April 11th
 
Stolen Vehicle – 5200 block of Victor Ave.
At 8:47AM the victim reports that their van was stolen this morning from 4:20AM to 4:30AM.
 
Attempted Residential Burglary – 1700 Block of Arlington Blvd.
At 8:03PM, the victim arrived home to find a shattered bedroom window.  A roommate was home at 5:15PM and heard a loud bang but thought it was the roommates and did not investigate.  No loss.
 
April 12th
 
Shoplifting – 5805 Cutting Blvd (Sketchers) 
At 7:32PM, the suspect stole several items totaling and fled out the emergency exit in an unknown direction.
 
Shoplifting – 10794 San Pablo Ave (Marshalls) 
At 7:37PM, the suspect stole several items and was confronted by store security outside the store.  The business was able to get back the stolen items.  The suspect fled in a vehicle.
 
Burglary / Auto Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24hr Fitness) 
At 7:50PM, the suspect broke into (3) locked lockers and stole personal items.  The suspect then used the car keys from one of the lockers to gain access into the vehicles vehicle stealing more items.  The suspect then used the stolen debit cards in two other nearby cities in an attempt to make purchases. 
 
April 13th
 
Brandishing a Weapon – Central Ave at Yosemite Ave.
At 9:02AM the victim followed the suspect vehicle off the freeway into the City of El Cerrito, because of a road rage incident.   The suspect vehicle stopped and the driver pointed a black handgun at the victim.  The victim stopped following the suspect, and the suspect fled in an unknown direction on Central Ave.

Battery – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24hr Fitness)
At 8:19PM, the victim and suspect got into a verbal argument inside the business.  As the victim walked out of the business he was followed by the suspect.  The suspect engaged the victim in another verbal argument then punched the victim in the face causing a mark.  The victim reported the incident once they arrived home.

Commercial Burglary – 10598 San Pablo Ave (Baskin Robins)
At 12:14AM, officers responded to an alarm at the business.  The owner saw the suspect on video surveillance leaving the store with the safe.  Officers located a shattered front window and the suspect fled prior to officer’s arrival.

April 14th

Vehicle Theft – 400 block of Liberty St:
At 2:15 PM, an officer reports the theft of a silver 2012 Hyundai Sonata four-door between 6:30 PM on 4/11 and 8:30 AM on 4/12.

Grand Theft – 1400 block of Liberty St:
At 2:21 PM, an officer took a report for the theft of a catalytic converter between 6:00 PM on 4/12 and 8:00 AM on 4/14.

Grand Theft – 11600 San Pablo Ave (Mayfair Apartments):
At 3:10 AM, an officer was dispatched to a suspicious occurrence at the apartment building.  The victim believed someone had entered her apartment without her permission, and she then discovered missing items.

Vehicle Burglary – 6400 block of Moeser Ln:
At 5:17 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect shattered the window of the victim vehicle about 5 minutes earlier, and stole property from within.

Battery – 11600 San Pablo Ave (Mayfair Apartments):
Shortly after taking the above report, the officer was summoned back to the Mayfair apartments after the victim in the above case was served an eviction notice by the building manager.  The woman tore the notice to bits and threw it in the manager’s face, purportedly causing small abrasions. 
 
Organized Retail Theft-11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross):
An officer was patrolling in the area when an employee flagged the officer down and advised of a theft that occurred yesterday around 8:37 PM. The employee stated three suspects entered the store and stole $900 worth of shoes.

April 15th

Probation Violation / Possess Burglary Tools – San Pablo Ave / Moeser Ln:
At 10:45 AM, an officer saw a known suspect leaning in to an abandoned vehicle in the CVS lot.  As the suspect meandered in the area, the officer confirmed he was on felony probation with a full search clause, then conducted a pedestrian stop.  A search was conducted, during which assorted burglary tools were located in his backpack, in violation of his probation. The man was arrested and transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft – 1800 block of Liberty St:
At 2:15 PM, an officer reports the theft of the rear license plate from a vehicle between 4/14 at 6:00 PM and 4/15 at 2:00 PM.

Residential Burglary- 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave:
An officer reports an unknown suspect pried the patio door of the victim’s residence to gain entry. The suspect then ransacked the apartment and stole property. The burglary occurred between 9:25 AM and 5:45 PM.

Robbery-10794 San Pablo Ave (Marshalls):
At 8:46 PM, an officer reports a loss prevention agent contacted the suspect who was attempting to leave the business with unpaid merchandise. The agent knocked the merchandise to the ground in an attempt to recover it. The suspect balled his fists and threatened the loss prevention agent. The agent fearing for his safety, backed away and the suspect fled the scene with some of the merchandise.

Brandishing a Weapon/Threats- 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 10:57 PM, an officer reports the security guard of the business recognized a known shoplifter and asked them to leave. While walking towards the front of the store, the suspect pulled out a small knife and pointed it at the security guard and made threats.
