Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken today announced the City will replace 1.4 miles of water mains starting this summer as part of the Administration’s proactive plan to update the City’s aged water infrastructure.
"We are continuing to tackle ambitious water main replacements throughout Hoboken so we can provide our residents and businesses with uninterrupted water service," said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. "These critical upgrades will help ensure reliable service by modernizing our previously neglected infrastructure."
The City will replace water mains at the following locations:
- Grand Street from Third Street to Eighth Street
- Seventh Street from Grand Street to Adams Street
- Adams Street from Eighth Street to Nineth Street
- Eighth Street from Adams Street to Jefferson Street
- Madison Street from Fourth Street to Sixth Street
- Jefferson Street from First Street to Newark Street
- Park Avenue from Third Street to Fourth Street and Fifth Street to Eighth Street
- Castle Point Terrace from Eighth Street to 10th Street
Once the City installs the new water mains Hoboken will have replaced over 4.78 miles of water mains since 2018 representing approximately 11.6 percent of Hoboken water system.
By 2034, the City anticipates replacing an additional 5 miles of water mains and, once construction on these upgrades is complete, the City will have replaced a fourth of the City’s aged water system infrastructure at a rate two times the American Water Works Association’s recommendation for system repairs.
