SMPD - Spring Cleaning Reminders
Here are a few Spring and Summer housekeeping reminders:
This month SMPD will look for inoperable, abandoned, untagged, and expired vehicles on city streets and in city parking lots. Vehicles found violating the city ordinance for Inoperable Vehicles (City Code 8-301) will be tagged as abandoned. Any orange-tagged vehicle needs to be moved or removed, or they may face towing from the city street. If your vehicle has been tagged, please get in touch with SMPD via city hall at; 785-437-2311.
Please remind your cycling and scootering children that the downtown is marked and designated by city code (16-302) for pedestrians only. While on the sidewalks in front of the downtown business on Bertrand, Bicycles and scooters must be walked.
Damage to city park facilities will not be tolerated. Unfortunately, SMPD has had incidents in the past in which unaccompanied children have caused intentional damage and graffiti to the city park facilities. Parents whose children purposefully cause damage to the park facilities may be fined or even criminally charged through the city municipal court.
Finally, as is common when the weather warms, many dogs have been getting called in or caught at large. Owners should check their dog enclosures and fences. Owners of dog-at-large may be fined, especially if it results in an animal bite or repeated escapes (2-101).
Thank you all for your time, attention, and cooperation!
