Motorists traveling through Beaufort County this weekend should be mindful of events impacting traffic throughout the county.

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the Race to the Taste 5K running event will be held in downtown Beaufort. 

The race begins on Bay Street and will traverse downtown Beaufort and cross the Woods Memorial Bridge onto Lady’s Island.  Racers will continue a route on Lady’s Island before returning to downtown Beaufort. 

The Woods Memorial Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Motorists should plan to use an alternate route during that time.

Pedal Hilton Head Island will be held on Sunday, May 7^th, 2023. 
 
Expect to see an increased number of cyclists on the roadways of Hilton Head Island beginning at 7:30 a.m. 

The Pedal Hilton Head Island event will begin with cyclists staging at Celebration Park and then departing the park onto Pope Avenue at 7:30 a.m. There will be several flights of riders leaving the park at scheduled times throughout the morning.  The event is expected to draw over 700 cyclists who will traverse the island in groups.   You may see cyclists on the roadway until noon.

Sheriff’s deputies will be staged across the island to assist with traffic control at major intersections.

Motorists should use caution while traveling and be aware of the increased number of cyclists on the roadways.
