El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from April 23rd to April 29th
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from April 23rd to April 29th.
April 23rd
Stolen / recovered vehicle – 800 block of Galvin Drive:
An officer reports that in the evening of April 22nd the victim’s vehicle was stolen when the keys were left inside of it. The officer located the vehicle parked about a block away with the keys missing. The vehicle was returned to the victim.
Homicide – 900 block of Galvin Drive:
El Cerrito Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 4:32 PM. Callers reported multiple shots fired in the 900 block of Galvin Drive in El Cerrito. Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim in the street. Members of the El Cerrito Police Department, the El Cerrito Fire Department, and American Medical Response began providing aid to the victim. Paramedics transported the victim by helicopter to a trauma center for treatment. The victim died from his injuries at the hospital.
Stolen Vehicle-10700 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 8:49 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s scooter. The theft occurred on 4/23/23 between 9:30 AM-08:48 PM.
Vandalism – 500 block of Kearney St:
At 9:20 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect used a BB gun and shot four small windows of the victim’s house causing damage.
Tampering with a Vehicle- 1400 block of Richmond St:
At 3:24 AM, an officer reports two unknown suspects attempted to siphon gas from the victim’s vehicle when the suspect’s vehicle caught on fire. The suspect’s vehicle was fully engulfed and the fire caused damage to the victim’s vehicle.
April 24th
Drunk in Public – 10900 San Pablo Ave (El Cerrito Police Department)
At 3:57PM a subject walked into the lobby of the police department to pick up his belongings from his previous arrest. The subject inebriated, argumentative and urinated on the lobby floor. The subject was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Skimming Device – 10422 San Pablo Ave. (Bank of America)
At 3:35PM, the bank manager located an ATM skimming device in one of their machines.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Peerless Ave.
At 4:41AM, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the passenger on two felony burglary warrants out of Solano County. The subject was later transported to county jail.
April 25th
Stolen Vehicle – 3000 block of Carlson Blvd.
The victims was stolen from April 24th at 7:00PM to April 25th at 5:00AM.
Grand Theft– Lexington Ave at Central Ave.
The victim’s catalytic converter was stolen from their vehicle from April 24th at 1:00PM to April 25th at 7:20AM.
Petty Theft – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave.
The victim’s rear license plate was stolen off their vehicle from April 24th at 12:00PM to April 25th at 7:00AM.
Battery – Richmond St at Potrero Ave.
At 10:05AM, officers responded to a fight between two subjects. While jogging on Richmond St, the suspect parked his car in front of the victim, got out, punched the victim and kicked him. The victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Petty Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway)
At 4:38PM, the victim reported that her rear license plate was stolen from her vehicle while she was shopping.
Possession of Stolen Property / Possession of Burglary Tools / Warrant Arrest – Cutting Blvd / S. 50th St.
At 3:58AM, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver for possession of a stolen catalytic converter and burglary tools. The driver also had a misdemeanor warrant for DUI out of Berkeley. The subject was later cited and released at ECPD.
April 26th

April 27th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1100 block of Liberty St.
At 9:37AM, an El Cerrito Police Officer recovered the victims reported stolen vehicle. The vehicle was returned to its owner.
April 28th
No incidents to report.
April 29th
Extortion – 6600 block of Central Ave:
At 1105 hours, an Officer reports in the early morning hours of 4/29 the 16 year old victim willingly sent sexually explicit photos of himself to a user on the “Wizz” social media platform, who then demanded money to “make the issue go away”. The victim made several attempts to send money by various means, but was only successful in sending an Apple gift card via his Apple account.
Attempted Vehicle Theft – 600 block of Clayton Ave:
At 1128 hours, an Officer reports an unidentified suspect punched the door locks on both the driver and passenger doors to gain entry to a vehicle. The suspect destroyed the ignition cylinder and managed to turn the ignition on, but was unable to start the truck. Occurred between 1700 hours on 4/28 and 0900 hours on 4/29.
Vandalism/Warrant- 11645 San Pablo Ave (Freeway Motel):
At 3:05 AM, officers were dispatched to the location for a subject who vandalized a vehicle with a metal pole. Responding officers located a subject who matched the description several blocks away and detained him. The subject was positively identified and placed under Citizen’s Arrest. During a records check, officers discovered the subject had an active warrant out of Solano County for his arrest. The subject was transported to the El Cerrito PD for booking and released on a citation.
