UPDATE: Vehicle Recovered from Fox River, Occupant Deceased; Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge Reopened
The Green Bay Police Department is investigating the cause of a crash at the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge on Saturday, May 6, 2023, resulting in the death of one person after a vehicle ended up in the Fox River.
Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Main Street just before 7:00 p.m. for a black car that was reported by witnesses to be seen going under water with one known person still inside.
Green Bay Metro Fire Department also responded to the call for rescue and recovery efforts and remained on scene to assist the GBPD Dive Team for the duration of the incident.
The vehicle along with the body were pulled from the water around 11:00 p.m.
The identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin is notified.
A post-mortem examination will be scheduled by the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge was temporarily closed and reopened at 11:30 p.m.
