On May 7, 2023, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Dispatch received a 911 call regarding an unknown subject who had just broke into his house in the 400 block of Bruce Avenue. The subject was armed with an axe, smashed through the back sliding glass door, and gained entry into the home. The resident was able to exit the home through front door and call 911. RPDPS Officers quickly arrived on scene and set up a perimeter around the home, and the resident informed Officers that he did not know the subject.

Once the perimeter was set up, RPDPS Officers on scene began to make announcements for the subject to exit the residence. After multiple announcements, there was no indication that the subject was going to respond. At this time, a team of Officers made their way to the front door and, through the front door, observed the subject sitting on a couch. The Officers made several additional announcements, but the subject did not respond. As a result, Officers made entry into the residence and contacted the subject, who was no longer armed with the axe and was safely taken into custody without any further incident.

The subject was identified as Tage Allen Wert, a 43-year-old resident of Groveland, California. Wert was arrested for one felony count of 594(B)(1) PC – Vandalism and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility. No one was injured during the incident.

Thank you to the Santa Rosa Police Department, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, and Petaluma Police Department for offering additional resources for this incident.
