Update - Thursday, May 11, 2023 - 6:55 a.m.:The Preble High School threat investigation is ongoing at this time. The Green Bay Police Department will continue to keep additional officers at the school through the end of this week as a precaution. We will remain in constant communication with the Green Bay Area Public School District regarding any new information related to the matter.


Update - Tuesday, May 9, 2023 - 3:12 p.m.: The Green Bay Police Department remains actively investigating the social media threat referencing a potential shooting at Preble High School from Monday, May 8, 2023. As a continued precautionary measure for Wednesday, May 10, 2023, we are planning to also have additional officers at the school tomorrow following today’s extra security measures.

The Green Bay Police Department has extra officers at Edison Middle School & Preble High School on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, as a precautionary measure while we continue to investigate two separate social media threats referencing potential shootings at each school.

“We take all threats very seriously and when an incident like this occurs, we work closely with the Green Bay Area Public School District to ensure the safety of students and staff. This morning, students were welcomed into Edison Middle School and Preble High School like any other day, but with the situation at hand, we are staffing each location with additional officers throughout the day,” said Lt. Keith Gering, Green Bay Police Department.

Green Bay Police learned of the threat at Edison Middle School on Monday, May 8, 2023, just before 7:00 p.m. and within a couple of hours, we identified a GBAPS juvenile student as the suspected originator of that threat. Charges are being referred to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office. Meanwhile, we are continuing to investigate leads into the origin of the threat against Preble High School, which became known on Monday, May 8, 2023, around 10:15 p.m.

“At this time, we have found the threat at Edison Middle School to not be credible and we are still actively investigating the threat at Preble High School, and we will invest as much time as needed to explore the credibility,” said Lt. Gering. “It is important that we remind everyone that any time you have information of a threat, please contact local law enforcement immediately to investigate.”
