GPFDPS is reminding residents that dog leashes are required while walking their dog(s) out in public. Please see attached link.
The Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety would like to remind dog owners that City Ordinance requires their dogs be leashed while out for walks in public. This is both for the dogs’ safety and the well-being of the other people and animals in the general area. Dog owners can’t always guarantee that a dog that is usually obedient off leash will not have a “moment” and disobey a command or unintentionally scare someone by running up to say “hi.” No leashes are required inside the Grosse Pointe Farms Dog Park. Below is an excerpt of the Grosse Pointe Farms Ordinance regarding leashing your pet. Thank you for your cooperation.
CODE NO. 7-05 -- ANIMAL REGULATION
Ordinance No. 198
Section 7. No person shall allow any pet which is kept, maintained, or harbored by him or
her to run free in any public place or upon any private property not owned or rented by such person
except when held securely by a leash of suitable strength and length by such person or other person
capable of restraining such pet or when confined securely in a shipping receptacle or closed motor
vehicle; provided further that no such pet shall be permitted at any time to be in any public place or
on private property not owned or rented by such person unless such pet shall have been immunized
against rabies.
