Three Arrested on Drug Related Charges After Traffic Stop in Meridian
MERIDIAN- Three suspects were arrested on various drug related charges after Meridian Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on May 11,2023.

At approximately 11:10AM, officers witnessed a white Chevrolet Cruz driving eastbound on Fairview when the vehicle began driving erratically including making an illegal lane change and running a red light. The vehicle with three occupants was stopped on the 1000 block of N. Eagle Rd.  Probation and Parole was on scene and requested the driver of the vehicle, twenty-four (24) year old Paula VASQUEZ and her vehicle be searched as she was currently out on parole.

A search of the vehicle yielded fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, and various drug paraphernalia commonly used to use and distribute the drugs found. A search of the two passengers: twenty-four-year-old Hugo LOPEZ-FLORES and twenty-four (24) year old Inez VASQUEZ yielded addition fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. A total of approximately 2.9 grams of suspected fentanyl and approximately 9 grams of suspected methamphetamine was located.

“As we continue to see the negative effects of drugs brought into our communities and our officers continue to respond to overdose deaths as a result of fentanyl, it is time our state legislators take this public safety crisis seriously and pass mandatory minimum sentences for the fentanyl traffickers who continue to victimize our communities,” said Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

Paula VASQUEZ, Inez VASQUEZ, and LOPEZ-FLORES were arrested and transported to the Ada County Jail where more paraphernalia was located on Paula VASQUEZ’s person. Paula VASQUEZ and Inez VASQUEZ were booked on the following charges: two (2) felony counts POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUSTANCE and one (1) misdemeanor count DRUG PARAPHERNALIA- USE OR POSSESS WITH INTENT TO USE each. LOPEZ-FLORES was booked on the following charges: one (1) felony count CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE-MANUFACTURE OR DELIVER, OR POSSESS WITH INTENT TO MANUFACTURE OR DELIVER and one (1) misdemeanor count DRUG PARAPHERNALIA- USE OR POSSESS WITH INTENT TO USE.

The Meridian Police Department would like to thank the Idaho Department of Corrections with their assistance on yesterday’s arrests.
