PRESS RELEASE.

On Friday, May 12, 2023 at approximately 1610 hours, emergency services were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Main Street and Nelson Street in the Whitehouse Station section of Readington Township. Officers arrived to find  a 12 year-old male lying in the roadway next to his bicycle, unconscious.  According several accounts, the 12 year old was traveling west on his bicycle and as he attempted to crossed Main Street, he was struck by a 2007 Nissan Sentra. The striking party was a 19 year-old female from Readington Township.  The 12 year old was treated at the scene by the Whitehouse Rescue Squad and paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center. He was transported to the baseball fields on James Street where he was flown to Morristown Medical Center by Atlantic Air One.

A preliminary investigation revealed that neither speed nor distracted driving was a factor in the crash.  The striking party, who remained at the scene and cooperated with police, was not issued a summons.  The road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was processed by the Readington Twp. Traffic Bureau and the Hunterdon County Accident Reconstruction Team. This incident is still under investigation and witnesses are encouraged to contact Corporal Wester by calling (908)534-4031 or emailing him at [email protected]

While it is unfortunate that this incident occurred during our pedestrian safety education and outreach campaign, it will only strengthen our resolve to make Main Street safer for all.
