On May 13, 2023, at about 12:30 PM, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding a possible unresponsive person on the side of Avery Sheep Ranch Rd near Black Quartz Rd, Murphys. Deputies responded to the scene and located the male subject. Upon initial examination, no apparent signs of foul play or significant injuries were found. Medical personnel arrived and subsequently pronounced the male deceased at the scene. Due to the limited information regarding the subject, the location was secured, and Detectives were requested to gather additional information on the cause of death. 
This case is still under investigation however at this time the sheriff’s office would like to convey to residents and community members in the area that no danger exists nor is there any wanted subjects being pursued regarding this case.  No further information will be released at this time.
