Robbery at the University Square Shopping Center
On May 18, 2023, at approximately 11:20 a.m., the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a call of a robbery that just occurred at a business located at the University Square shopping center, located in the 1400 block of Southwest Boulevard. A store employee reported the suspect entered the store and asked to purchase merchandise. As the employee opened the cash register, the suspect removed a handgun from his waistband and demanded money.
The store employee described the suspect as a black male, approximately 20 years old, 6’00” tall, “lean” build, wearing a grey and black hooded sweatshirt with a multi-color caricature on the front, blue jeans, black and white shoes, a black belt bag/fanny pack across his chest, and a yellow surgical mask covering his face (see suspect’s photo attached). The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot northbound through the shopping center with an undisclosed amount of money.
Out of an abundance of caution, area schools, businesses, and residents were asked to shelter in place while officers and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter attempted to locate the suspect. Once it was determined there was no further threat to the community, the shelter-in-place was lifted. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Detective Kopshever at (707) 588-3352 and refer to Case #23-1813.
