IMPD Detectives Make an Arrest in Wednesday Night's Homicide

INDIANAPOLIS – On Friday, May 19, 2023, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide detectives arrested 23-year-old Cynthia Lewis for her alleged role in the death of 23-year-old Deante McKinzie.
 
On Wednesday, May 18, 2023, just before 10:00 pm, IMPD North District officers responded to the 3400 E. 38th Street on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and learned that the victim had already been self-transported to an area hospital. Shortly after arrival to the hospital the victim was unfortunately pronounced deceased by medical staff. While on the scene officers did locate a crime scene at the location they were dispatched to.  
 
IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will assist and determine the exact cause and manner of death.  
 
IMPD homicide detectives continued their investigation and identified the alleged suspect. On Friday, May 19, 2023, IMPD homicide detectives announced the arrest of Lewis for her alleged involvement. Lewis was charged with Murder.
 
The Marion County Prosecutors office will review the case and make a final charging decision.
