Teen Flees from Deputy in Stolen Car Before Crashing into Fence at a Residence

LOCATION: 18600 Block of Sonoma Rd., Adelanto
SUSPECT: Male Juvenile, 17 years-old, Resident of Adelanto
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., Deputy R. Morales responded to the 18600 block of Sonoma Rd. in Adelanto for a stolen vehicle recovery. The vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day from the city of Victorville.
When Deputy Morales arrived at the location, he saw a Hispanic male sitting in the driver’s seat of the stolen vehicle, a 2017 Gray Hyundai Sonata sedan. As he approached the vehicle, the suspect started driving away. The driver, later identified as a 17-year-old juvenile out of Adelanto, drove a short distance and then jumped out of the vehicle, leaving the car in drive. The car continued moving forward until it hit a wrought iron fence in front of a residence, knocking it over.
The suspect ran west from the location and was located a short time later hiding by a house. He was arrested without incident and booked at High Desert Detention Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center.
