Update on Levee work
You have most likely seen all the work that has been done on the levee over the past several weeks. As of today, the work to raise the levee is on schedule and 75% complete. It is expected to be 100% complete by the first part of June. We will see more snowmelt from now until late July. Be assured that this runoff will be closely monitored as will the levee and overall water levels. The work that has been done and continues to be done, has and will significantly lower the risk of flooding.
On May 17th the Governor signed an executive order that will allow Kern River floodwater into the California Aqueduct to reduce flows into the Tulare Lake Basin. This is a significant help in keeping water levels around Corcoran down. This diversion will begin as early as tomorrow.
We will continue to monitor the water flows / levels, the levee and continue to provide relevant updates as runoff increases over the coming months.
