El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from May 7th to May 13th
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from May 7th , to May 13th.
May 7th
Public Intoxication – 11382 San Pablo Ave (Atlas Liquor).
At 6:13PM, a subject was arrested for public intoxication after causing a disturbance inside the business. The subject was arrested and transported to county jail.
Arson / Commercial Burglary / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 11425 San Pablo Ave (American Home Furnishings).
At 10:17PM, officers responded to a commercial burglary in progress. The subject was detained at the backdoor attempting to lite the wooden door on fire. The subject also used a piece of metal to break apart a wooden door to an exterior electrical closet. During the subject’s arrest, the subject possessed drug paraphernalia. The subject was placed under arrest, booked at ECPD, and later transported to county jail.
May 8th
Battery – 400 El Cerrito Plaza (Wing Stop)
At 2:00PM the suspect rammed the victim with his shoulder, as they walked past each other. The victim fell to the ground and sustained bruises and abrasions.
Stolen Vehicle (Report) – 6500 block of Portola Dr.
The victim’s vehicle was stolen between May 7th at 5PM to May 8th at 9AM.
Stolen Vehicle (Recovered) – Yosemite Ave / Lassen St.
At 10:36AM an officer recovered a vehicle that was reported stolen to San Pablo PD on 5/5/2023. The vehicle was released to the registered owner at the scene.
Burglary / Stolen Vehicle – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24hr Fitness).
At 1:32AM, an unknown suspect broke into the victim’s locker and stole the keys to the vehicle. The suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle which was later recovered that morning in San Francisco.
May 9th
Fraudulent Use of Credit Cards – 10422 San Pablo Ave. (Bank of America)
At 11:57AM an unknown suspect used the victim’s debit card and withdrew money from the ATM.
Petty Theft – 5805 Cutting Blvd. (Sketchers)
At 4:41PM the suspect stole shoes and fled on foot northbound on San Pablo Ave.
Petty Theft – 2300 block of Mono Ave.
Sometime last night the suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and stole an unknown amount of U.S. coins.
May 10th
Burglary – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s)
At 9:23AM the suspect pried open a glass case with a screwdriver, stole a speaker and fled.
Criminal Threats – 11575 San Pablo Ave. (Churches Chicken)
At 2:39PM the suspect became angry at the manger over an order and threatened to shoot her. The suspect reached into his jacket as if he had a gun, but no weapon was seen. As the manager was calling the police, the suspect ran away.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1600 block of Kearney St.
At 2:29PM, an officer located an unoccupied vehicle which was reported stolen on May 3rd to the Richmond Police Department. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Shoplifting – 11687 San Pablo Ave (Valero).
At 7:20PM, an unknown suspect walked into the gas station, selected merchandise and fled the store on foot without paying.
Grand Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24hr Fitness).
At 9:04PM, the victim placed his personal items into an unsecured locker and went to workout. When the victim returned two hours later his items were gone.
May 11th
Battery and Vandalism – 9989 San Pablo Ave. (O’Reilly Auto Parts)
At 11:58AM the victim saw the suspect take money on the ground that belonged to another customer. The suspect spat in the victims face and damaged the victim’s cell phone, as the victim physically detained the suspect inside the store. Prior to police arrival, the suspect fled and the citizen whose money was recovered by the victim, did not want to cooperate with the investigation.
Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s)
At 1:26PM the suspect grabbed miscellaneous items from the display shelf and placed them into a bag. The suspect pushed the security guard against the shelf, and pushed store security again, as they exited the store with the stolen merchandise. The suspect walked back into the store momentarily and said he was going to come back to shoot everyone. The suspect fled northbound through the parking lot.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 6100 block of Potrero Ave.
At 2:09PM, an officer located an unoccupied suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot with the engine on. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Daly City on May 3rd, 2023. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Shoplifting – 6050 El Cerrito Plaza (Barnes and Noble)
At 3:20PM the suspect selected merchandise and fled without paying for them.
Battery on Officer / Obstruction / Trespassing – 6060 Central Ave (Nations).
At 3:03AM, officers were dispatched to a subject refusing to leave the business at closing. After 30 minutes of trying to get the subject to leave, the subject was placed under citizen’s arrest by the business. During the arrest, the subject kicked officers repeatedly and attempted to spit on them. The subject was later transported to county jail.
May 12th
Battery x2 – 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joe’s):
At 1:23 PM, a man got angry while turning in a job application and struck two employees, causing a small scratch on the face of an employee. The suspect was in and out of lucidity and vomited while he was detained. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and a report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
May 13th
Vandalism - 11299 San Pablo Ave (Del Norte Liquors):
At 6:39 PM, two irate customers were upset over the service they received from the clerk and damaged several packages of merchandise.
Auto Burglary- 10500 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 8:20 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed out several windows of the victim’s vehicle to gain entry. The suspect rifled through the vehicle but did not take anything.
