On May 20, 2023, at approximately 0932 hours, Officers with the Simi Valley Police Department responded to a call of a Traffic Collision between a vehicle and an electric bicycle in the area of Walnut Street and Galveston Avenue. The two male juveniles were transported to the hospital due to their injuries. The adult male driver and female passenger of the vehicle were not injured.

The Simi Valley Police Department's Traffic Bureau assumed the investigation and determined the two male juveniles were riding the electric bicycle south on Galveston when they did not stop for the stop sign at Walnut. The juveniles continued through the intersection and were struck by the vehicle traveling east on Walnut. Based on evidence on scene and witness statements, it appears the vehicle was traveling at or below the posted speed limit when the crash occurred.

Neither juvenile was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Both juveniles suffered significant injuries but at this time they do not appear to be life threatening.

The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind everyone to be sure to follow the law as it relates to riding bicycles and electric bicycles. The California Vehicle code requires all operators and passengers of bicycles and electric bicycles under the age of 18 to wear a bicycle helmet when operating a bicycle or electric bicycle upon a street, bikeway, or any other public bicycle path or trail. The California Vehicle Code also requires all riders to follow the rules of the road as it relates to riding on the correct side of the roadway, stopping at stop signs, and obeying all other traffic control devices.
