Police Investigate Shooting in the 19000 Block of Washtenaw Street
On May 20, 2023 at approximately 3:00 p.m. Harper Woods Police Officers responded to a residence in the 19000 block of Washtenaw to investigate a subject who had been shot. Officers and other first responders made the scene and determined a 10 year old boy had been shot one time in the head. The 10 year old boy was transportred to a local hosptial where he is listed in critical condition. From iniital invesitgation it appears the gunshot was self inflicted. Detectives continue their investigation in attempts to determine if the gunshot was intentional or accidental and where the gun came from. This is an open investigation. There will be no additional information released at this time.
The Harper Woods Police Department wants to remind firearm owners to be conscious of firearm safety in the home. When not in use, Fierarms should be unloaded and locked with some type of anti-firing device applied. Gun locks are available free of charge at the Harper Woods Police Department.
