Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help in identifying the below-pictured suspect in connection with the theft of a catalytic converter on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
At approximately 3:50 a.m., the suspect was captured on video surveillance camera walking northbound in the 300 block of South 19th Street and stopping at the victim’s parked vehicle. The suspect then crouched underneath the victim’s vehicle from the passenger side and used a light to remove the vehicle’s catalytic converter. The suspect then fled, walking southbound on South 19th Street towards 13th Avenue with the victim’s property.
Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
