Watervliet Memorial Day Parade - Road Closures & Parking Restrictions Announced
The City of Watervliet 's Memorial Day parade will kick off Monday, May 29th, 2023 at 10:00 am from the Watervliet High School. The parade will leave the High School (12th Ave) heading east on 19th Street to 2nd Avenue. From 2nd Avenue, the parade will head south towards Veterans Memorial Park (2nd Ave @ 16th Street) concluding at Veterans Memorial Pool.
Beginning 7:00 am on Monday, May 29th, there will be no parking on the entire stretch of 19th Street (both north and south sides). Cars parked in violation will be ticketed and towed by the Watervliet Police Department. The parking restrictions will end once the parade has concluded.
Beginning at 9:00am on Monday, May 29th, several road closures will take effect for the parade. Those roads are:
- 19th Street from 12th Avenue to 2nd Avenue
- 2nd Avenue from 23rd Street to 15th Street
- 16th Street from west of Broadway (near the McDonalds entrance) to 3rd Avenue.
Parade participants should be at the High School by 9:15 a.m. Parents who are dropping off kids that are participating in the parade will be allowed to drop them off at the beginning of Hillside and will be instructed to exit via Wiswall Ave. Vehicles will not be allowed to go up and around Hillside Drive. The area around Hillside and 12th Avenue will be extremely busy. Please use caution in this area.
Residents and visitors attending the parade are encouraged to join in the city's ceremony honoring veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This ceremony will take place inside Veterans Memorial Park (16th St and 2nd Ave) immediately after the parade.
