Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of May 15-21, 2023

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Robberies

There was one robbery during the past week.

On Friday, 05-19-23, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to Home Depot at the Westlake Shopping Center on a report of a suspect who stole two hatchets. A Home Depot asset protection specialist stated that she observed the suspect enter the store, select hatchets, walk past the registers, was asked by staff if he would pay for the items, and then exit the store without paying. The asset protection specialist contacted the suspect outside the store and told the suspect she just wanted the hatchets back. The suspect refused; therefore, the asset protection specialist said she was going to call the police. The suspect got upset and started to yell, lunge, and attempt to take a cell phone from the asset protection specialist. The suspect agreed to put the hatchets down if the asset protection specialist would not call the police. The suspect dropped the hatchets but continued to yell at the asset protection specialist. The asset protection specialist decided to call the police for help due to the suspect’s erratic behavior. The suspect picked up the hatchets valued at approximately $90 and left. This same suspect also stole a machete valued at approximately $30 earlier in the day. Through investigation, the suspect, a 24-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested and booked into jail for attempted robbery and petty theft.

Residential Burglaries

There was one residential burglary during the past week.

On Monday, 05-15-23, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a known suspect entered a residence on the 500 block of King Drive and stole an Apple MacBook laptop valued at $250. The suspect also broke two televisions. The laptop was found inside the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was located and had a loaded gun in her front right pants pocket. The suspect, a 29-year-old Daly City resident, was arrested and booked into jail for residential burglary, possession of a loaded firearm in a public place, and vandalism.

Commercial Burglaries

There was one commercial burglary during the past week.

On Monday, 05-15-23, at approximately 3:33 a.m., Officer Pursch was on routine patrol in the area of Mission Street and John Daly Boulevard when he heard an audible alarm. Officer Pursch observed on the 6300 block of Mission StreetShen’s Acupuncture Clinic had its front door glass shattered. There was a suspect inside the business with a headlamp searching through items within the store. As Officer Pursch exited his patrol vehicle, the suspect exited the business. The suspect grabbed his black rolling cart that was in front of the broken glass door and began walking northbound on Mission Street. Officer Pursch detained the suspect. As Officer Pursch spoke with the suspect, the suspect moved a plastic bag inside the cart. Officer Pursch observed a wooden hammer directly underneath the plastic bag. There were fresh glass fragments and scratch marks on the face and cheek of the hammer. The suspect said he knew the owner of the business, but upon checking with the owner, he did not recognize or know the suspect. The suspect, a 68-year-old transient, was arrested and booked into jail for commercial burglary.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
